Annual Year Mapping & Reflection Template
We all have good days and bad days, sometimes everything goes to plan other times life throws us curve balls; especially in 2020!
Regular self-reflection is a positive, proactive exercise to help you take a step back to reflect on your life, behaviour and habits. It increases self-awareness and self-confidence, provides you with perspective and helps you to recognise and track your progress both the ups and downs.
To help you reflect on your own successes, I am sharing a template that I have personally used for the 2nd year running to map out my previous year month by month.
2020 was a year like no other. It is easy to look back on it with negativity and think the pandemic consumed the year, but this year's exercise has really helped me look at how far I have come personally and professionally and how last year was not just all about restrictions and rules!
Remember this is simply an overview of your year, so keep it short and do not feel compelled to have to put something in every month.
I find it useful to get out my calendar and diary or /scroll through social media pages to help remind me of events, achievements, highs and lows.
Questions to ask yourself after you have completed the template
- How do I feel overall about this area of my life? Score them on a scale of 1-10
- What is working and what’s not working?
- What do I want more of?
- What do I want less of?
- What are my achievements/successes/wins?
- What do I want/goals/hopes?
- What am I grateful for?
- What areas of my life could I improve, what actions can I take?
Ongoing Monthly Refection for the Year Ahead
I also like to dedicate a page per month in my journal with the headings from the template to do a monthly reflection, this also makes your year mapping the following year even easier!
